So, 2 weeks is a long time in blog years but that’s how long our (LOL Boys) collaboration with London’s Hot City came out. We cleverly titled the EP LOL CITY. Basically, we all flew to Chicago, rented a warehouse in Pilsen for a month and made some straight up club ready jackin’ Acid House tunes. This video was also made in that same warehouse. We used a lot of green screens and heavy duty virtual reality processing from the 90′s. It’s not found footage! Johnny  and Jerome made this video on their own, so enjoy. So the best label in the biz, Body High, have just dropped their 3rd release; a three track EP from the mysterious DJ Soulja-Man. No one really knows who he is, but the last I heard he was actually Soulja Boy and Claude Vonstroke. Whoever it is, it’s amazing and worth your hard earned money. Especially with Dave Quam as Massacoormaan and DJ Dodger Stadium remixes accompanying the OG track, all available on Boomkat or Juno of course.

Soulja-Man was also cool enough to send over some free tracks to hype up the release.

If you’ve ever read XLR8R, Chicagoist or ventured out into Chicago nightlife even a little bit, then you’re more than likely aware of the man that is Jake Guidry. Freelance writer to the aforementioned outlets and contributor/ resident to the Signal monthly party at SmartBar, Jake is all over the place. And with such a broad exposure comes an admirably refined palette; this becomes quite evident when skimming his Bizzies Mix track list. Aside from obviously popular artists like Jay Z, Kanye West and Gucci Mane, just about every featured track is from the “up and coming” side of things. Since that’s one of our main focuses here at Bizzies, this mix is most suitable.

After rinsing this smooth flowing Bass selection you’ll probably find yourself wanting more Guidry, so I suggest checking him out next Thursday (February 23) at the Red Bull Music Academy showcase with Nguzunguzu, Supreme Cuts (live), Sparkletone and myself. It will be a swell time, I’m sure.

About 2 years ago, we (LOL Boys) made this clever edit of the classic T2 track “Heartbroken“. After playing it at damn near every gig we had at the time, the track became highly sought after. Since everyone wanted it so bad, we decided to do something very special and, in correlation with UNO Records, pressed it to a 10″ purple swirled vinyl. Said vinyl is hand stamped, hand numbered and comes with two versions of the song; all in a nice clear sleeve. The record is limited to 300 copies, never to be re-issued, so order it now or forever wish you had.

I’m not at all into the idea of “cashing in on someones death” (like the assholes over at Sony Music Group), but this Whitney Houston x Chromeo blend by Hood Internet feels more like a celebration than an exploitation. I’d recommend giving it a listen after watching her 1994 Grammy performance, aka what a Grammy performance should look and sound like. Not like the over compensating theatrics from the likes of a Perry or Minaj… But you know what, that’s a whole other topic of conversation, let’s not get sidetracked.

“Video Games” is just one of those songs, man. One of those songs that’ll fuck you up if you listen while in the wrong state of mind; the wrong place emotionally. And despite it’s almost overbearing weight, there’s a shadow of sarcasm in Lana Del Rey‘s voice that makes you think she’s just playing antagonist and poking fun at how stale communication between people can get. Maybe that’s the point, maybe I’m reading too much into it, I don’t know. All I know is I dig the vibe and I dig JMLYN‘s remix equally as much.

We posted his “All of Yet” tune late last year and I have to say that I’m really into his style. I don’t want to start spouting off a bunch of stupid sub-sub-sub-genres, but I’ll just say that it’s very “glitchy”. Take that how you will and stream his LDR interpretation below.

For our first post of the new year, I’d like to share a down and dirty track from Vlsonn; a remix he did for Blue Neptune. I’m not sure when this remix officially comes out or when it was posted on Soundcloud (it says posted about a year ago, shared 10 days ago), but its legitimacy is 1000% certified. Check that free download below and take a listen to Vlsonn’s Bizzies Mix Series contribution from early last year if you missed it the first time around.

I had never heard of this “Impossible” track before but apparently, with over 38 million plays on YouTube, it’s a big deal. Not to be swayed by mainstream figures, I’m casting my vote for Sliink‘s rework as the better version. Let it soak.

Thanks to Brookah for bringing this to my attention during my stay in Paris and I couldn’t be more excited to hear Dubbel Dutch scroll it out at our Signal launch party tonight.
