I think it’s safe to say that Top Billin‘s Club Cheval EP, a Canblaster/ Myd/ Sam Tiba collab, is one of the nuttiest releases to hit the dance market in some time. Along with the a strong dancehall influence, it’s pretty consistent with the usage of cooky sound effects, which is something I’ve been noticing in a bunch of other tunes this year as well (see also: Legobeat.) And I don’t mean “cooky” in a bad way, it’s completely entertaining and most likely something that would get a crowd off in any number of situations, especially in tandem with a grumbling bassline.
Having said that, I’d highly recommend checking out Canblaster’s “Chicken Run” if you’re in need of an afternoon pick-me-up. While you’re at it, snag an exclusive mix of theirs over at A Sound A Birthday and pick up the whole Club Cheval EP on Beatport or Juno.
