Small Black, aka two dudes from Brooklyn, is one of those new bands getting lumped into that whole “Glo-Fi” or “Chill-Wave” genre. I have no idea why music journalists come up with stupid genre titles like those because it honestly can ruin the perception of the music. You can place Small Black in the same category as Neon Indian, Toro y Moi and Washed Out, which isn’t a bad thing, just more like being able to hold their own among excellent company.
Their music is extremely pleasant listening, with plenty of subtle keyboards and drum machines to set your mind free. Their self-titled 12″ is currently on rotation in my lazy day listening sessions, the days where my unemployed ass is searching for work in LA on Craigslist.
