May 24 I cried when I played this song the other day. I was driving home from work, a couple days after I told my Schaumburg friends that I was moving to the city the following week, and I guess reality set in; I was leaving. I was taking the usual route home: 355 to 290, off at Higgins, past Lifetime Fitness, etc… Well it was when I passed Lifetime when it all hit me. “All My Friends” was playing in my car and I just started thinking about all the great people I’ve met over the years in Schaumburg, LTF primarily.
I’ve been in and out of that place 4+ times a week for the past however long and it’s tough to think that it won’t be a part of my life anymore. I’m obviously going to remain close to those who I consider to be good friends, but still, it’s a huge change, you know? Seeing the same faces everyday for years and then not at all is almost like getting dumped from your first big relationship (later to realize that it didn’t really matter). I think my main concern is how my cat will like the city, he’s a pretty chill guy, he should be fine. Yeah, he’ll be cool… He’ll probably go out more… (haha).
So yeah, everything plays out how it plays out and I guess this just goes to show that it doesn’t matter how boring of a place you live, but who you’re living there with. Let’s just hope I don’t spend the next five years trying to be with my friends…
